What Does the Red Light Mean on the HTC HD2?

The HD2 HTC smart phone, available with the T-Mobile network, offers multimedia messaging, GPS and access to the Internet. One of those features includes a light emitting diode notification at the top of the screen and one on top of the phone itself. This light may flash from green to amber and even red, when it is experiencing a problem or you have several notifications

  1. Charging Issues

    • When the battery is fully charged, the LED emits a green light. When the battery wears down, it emits an amber light, meaning there’s only 20 percent of the battery left. When there is a 10 percent charge left, the light changes to red. If there is an issue with the charging process, the light will blink red. If this happens, confirm there are no bent pins in the connection between the phone and the charger. If the charger has bent pins, it cannot deliver the charge to the phone sufficiently.

    Multiple Notifications

    • The HD2 HTC smart phone uses the LED element at the top of the phone screen to inform you of messages. When you receive a new message, the LED emits a green light. In the case of multiple missed notifications, this light may turn to a blinking red light to let you know to check your messages. You will need to check voice, text and email messages and clear this for the light to stop blinking.

    Third-Party Applications

    • Sometimes the red warning light means an application is causing a problem. Because the T-Mobile HTC HD2 phone works with third-party applications, sometimes one of these applications can conflict with the phone’s software or another application resulting in the red light. Close out each open application one at a time and pay attention to the light. If it goes out after a specific application is closed, this is the problem application.

    Bad Battery

    • If the HTC HD2 battery is not working properly, the red light will blink or come on. When you are charging the HTC HD2, until the phone accepts a charge, the light will stay red, as it charges the light will change. If you’ve charged it for three hours and the warning light stays red, the battery may require replacement or is causing the phone to overheat. At this point, replace the battery to see if that works, if it does not, the phone requires service.
