5 Android Tablet Apps for Making Free Phone Calls


Android offers a wide variety of applications and among these are those that allow free phone calls. Communication is indeed an important part of living, and fortunately, technology has made it easier for you to connect with others at no cost. Here are some Android applications that do just that:
1. Google Voice
The Android version of Google Voice features real-time functionality. This allows you to receive text and voice messages instantly as they arrive. This is unlike the earlier version wherein the software would check for new messages only once every 15 minutes. The application has an "inbox synchronization" feature which when activated, displays any messages that arrives within seconds. Also, you could make international calls with your Google number. You can also send free text messages with this application.
2. Fring
The new version of the Android Fring has a brand-new profile screen and a new look on the buddy list. A dialer has been added. This makes Fring attractive to its users, aside from its capability of making calls. The updated buddy list is now made friendlier. It displays your buddy's picture and mood line; same goes with the call screen.
You can also personalize your profile by adding a picture and editing your mood to let your friend know how you're feeling. You can also add your e-mail address and phone number.
Also, the new Android Fring provides a better communication experience through its voice improvements and bug fixes.
3. Skype
The new Android Skype is quite similar to the iPhone version. When signing in, you could immediately see who of your contacts are online. You can send messages and make calls over Wi-Fi or a standard 3G connection.
Call quality is quite clear. There might be instances when the connection jumps but all in all, the experience is pleasant.
The Skype looks fantastic physically. Navigation is easy and the menus are colorful and sharp.
4. Guava
With Guava, you can make free calls to any US number using your Google Voice and Gizmo5 account. Also, Guava allows you to receive calls to your Google Voice number provided you have an internet connection. You can also send text messages to US phones with this application.
5. Viber for Android beta
Viber lets you call Viber user over 3G and Wi-Fi connection. This application also allows free text messaging. With Viber, you can have unlimited calling and texting to any Viber user on either Android or iPhone.
The Android version of Viber is said to have unique features such as full call screen and pop-up text message notifications. Also, you can set Viber as your default dialer.
If you decide to purchase an Android gadget for yourself, do not forget to take advantage of the vast virtual market. Although some applications for communication come with a certain price, it would be best to start downloading the free applications first to determine which ones really work for you. Most Android applications offer occasional updates, so any bug or glitch in the system will be fixed in due time.
