AT&T Offers International Plan For iPhone

AT&T announced today a new international plan for iPhone users.
iPhone
A new $60 Data Global Plan will provide iPhone users 50 MB of data per month to search online, check email and access other information in 29 countries, including Canada, China, Mexico and areas in Europe and Asia.
The plan cannot be purchased separately and is in addition to the domestic plan needed for iPhone activation. iPhone customers that go over the 50MB limit will pay an additional $0.005 per KB in those countries where the plan is available. In other areas users will pay double the amount.
iPhone subscribers who want a smaller plan, AT&T is offering 20MB for $25 a month. The same rate applies for going the limit in countries covered by the plan.
AT&T says that international travelers should check their wireless options as part of their trip planning process. Travelers can visit the international page for details on where the service is available.

iPhone 4 AT&T U-Verse Mobile App - Why Only 2.5 Stars?

AT&T recently launched the U-verse app for the iPhone 4. It is an application that allows customers to browse the TV guide, set favorite shows so you see them quickly, set DVR recordings, and watch SELECT recorded shows. iPhone 4 users can utilize the app when connected to a 2G, 3G, or Wi-Fi network. There have been mixed reviews of the product as indicated by a two and a half star rating out of 5 stars in Apple's App store. For most, what the app is able to do in connecting to the DVR and their U-verse package is acceptable; it is what the app does not do that leads to most of the negative comments. The question is, will AT&T take any action to move the app toward the 4-5 Star rating?
First, let's review some positives about the AT&T U-verse mobile application. From almost all accounts the app does exactly what it says it is going to do. Over a 2G or 3G network iPhone4 users can access the TV Guide and set and manage their home DVR, which is very cool. There have been a few that have said a recording they set didn't work but since the recent app update that seems to be a rare occurrence. Furthermore, people have raved about the downloadable content from the AT&T U-verse application. On the iPhone 4 the quality of the videos are impeccable and they do not take too long to download with a Wi-Fi connection. So the app delivers as promised, but why the low rating?
There are a few major complaints about the application that are universal across the board for users. While the app itself is free, to actually access downloadable content an iPhone 4 user must also be signed up for a U300 U-verse package or better. The U300 package is selling for $82 a month without HD channels. If a customer has any package less than the U300 they will not be able to download any shows to their iPhone. Also, the shows that are available for download are the choice of AT&T. It is not live streaming television, or even shows that have been recorded on the users' home DVR. Many are upset that they can't watch the shows they recorded and insist this is the main issue AT&T should address. Finally, recorded shows are only available for download over a Wi-Fi network. Just like FaceTime, iPhone 4 users cannot use what would be a popular app because it is tethered to Wi-Fi. The bandwidth requirements are understandable but are they enough to keep the ratings low?
The AT&T U-verse mobile app seems to be a good, but not great, mobile application. The app does what is expected of it but does not deliver exactly what people are looking for. It is useful for managing your home DVR from the iPhone. However, if someone is looking to watch live streaming television or the shows they have recorded this is not the app to do it. Perhaps some of the army of iPhone 4 testers are fine tuning a full featured app right now?

Choosing an iPhone Repair Shop

Being the proud owner of an iPhone is only one side of a glamorous coin. When your iPhone needs a repair, it suddenly would seem too costly or you might think it is a burden. You must remember that the iPhone is a powerful appliance that can cater a wide range of facilities to its users, which makes it a valuable possession. Therefore, hitch up for a multitude of options that you have got to repair your precious iPhone.
Repairing an iPhone is tricky. There are two primary options. The first that you can try your hand at repairing it yourself at home using the online tutorial guide and the iPhone repair kits. The second is to locate a fine licensed iPhone repair service outlet that can repair your iPhone. The second option is a better one. Owing to the tiny, intricate circuits of the iPhone, it is better to give it to a professionally trained person, or you might end up damaging it a lot more than it was in the first place. Even those who generally repair other model phones cannot handle repairing the recent models such as the Next Generation iPhone 4. Hence, an iPhone needs special attention. Even though opting a good service store for an iPhone repair is costly, it is worth the money. You can even call the iPhone technician home to repair your iPhone in case you do not want to leave your iPhone at the repair shop.
The problems in your iPhone can be of any sort. The screen might be cracked or the LCD might have started to bleed strange colors or the battery might have suddenly died out. For all these problems do not attempt self-help, instead get professional help. If you go to an Apple store they may wheedle you into buying a new spare or a new iPhone rather than trying to repair the defective part. So, go to an iPhone repair shop. These places do not make you spend more money than is required.
You can begin shortlisting places for your iPhone repair. Ask around a bit at your work place, or enquire your friends, relatives etc. Note their references to various stores and choose what you think is the best. Though all this needs a lot of patience, it is made easy with a lot of options. Call the stores that you have shortlisted or consult the websites and carry out a small research. If it is too difficult for you to get to the service shop, you can call the technician home.
An iPhone repair shop is present in most of the major cities. You might have to live without your iPhone for at least 24 hours. Repairing an iPhone is almost an art. So, choose a repair shop that repairs iPhones too. What should have been the end of an old iPhone can be avoided with a good repair option. If it is a water damage or USB port problem or screen damage or volume control repair, you need to get to the right place for effective service. Call an iPhone service shop that is near you and get your iPhone working again.

webOS vs Android: Head to Head

Many early adopters of smartphone technology were blown away by the Palm Pre; it was a showcase of smartphone technology, and many of those same early adopters lauded its crisp feel and elegant presentation.
Fast forward to the present: Android and iPhone now dominate the smartphone arena, and webOS has been lagging behind in that arena somewhat severely. HP's new TouchPad, however, is a tablet that uses a new, revamped version of webOS that promises to be a true contender to the Android operating system. Is webOS a viable contender to Android in the tablet arena?
For the most part - yes! The webOS interface is very slick and smooth, and it has the same responsiveness that the Palm Pre did those years ago. Many of the problems that the earlier webOS versions had, like unstable multitasking, have been rectified for this latest incarnation of the operating system.
The operating system also feels very optimized for the tablet form factor, a problem that continues to plague Android tablets running 2.1 or 2.2 (though, to be fair, Google has stated that those Android versions are not intended for tablet use). It does, however, fare very well against Honeycomb, Google's own Android version designed for tablets; the two operating systems are more or less neck and neck in terms of speed, feel of use, and overall usability.
Where webOS is going to have a problem, however, is the number of apps available for the platform. Android's app catalog blows away webOS' app catalog; at last count, Android's app numbers extended into the hundreds of thousands, while webOS' numbers are more in the tens of thousands. It is a deficit caused by the lack of adoption surrounding webOS, true, but it is a deficit that will have to be faced by anyone looking to buy a webOS-based tablet in the future. Quite simply, the sheer amount of Android apps available are a huge value-add for the operating system.
This isn't an insurmountable advantage. Android had the same problem when it squared off against iOS. webOS is a very usable system, and with some effort and savvy marketing HP and other webOS backers could perhaps sway some developers to their side. It is, however, a problem that the webOS community needs to tackle smartly; at the moment webOS isn't as chock-full of apps, and users know it.
Other than that, webOS is a pretty worthy contender to Android. HP's TouchPad seems to be a pretty strong contender and is a great showcase of the webOS operating system itself. If webOS can boost app count and gain some market share, they could be a viable third tablet OS joining the fray; at the moment, however, Android maintains a slight advantage. If we had to declare a winner, we would have to crown Android - for now, at least!

5 Android Tablet Apps for Making Free Phone Calls

Android offers a wide variety of applications and among these are those that allow free phone calls. Communication is indeed an important part of living, and fortunately, technology has made it easier for you to connect with others at no cost. Here are some Android applications that do just that:
1. Google Voice
The Android version of Google Voice features real-time functionality. This allows you to receive text and voice messages instantly as they arrive. This is unlike the earlier version wherein the software would check for new messages only once every 15 minutes. The application has an "inbox synchronization" feature which when activated, displays any messages that arrives within seconds. Also, you could make international calls with your Google number. You can also send free text messages with this application.
2. Fring
The new version of the Android Fring has a brand-new profile screen and a new look on the buddy list. A dialer has been added. This makes Fring attractive to its users, aside from its capability of making calls. The updated buddy list is now made friendlier. It displays your buddy's picture and mood line; same goes with the call screen.
You can also personalize your profile by adding a picture and editing your mood to let your friend know how you're feeling. You can also add your e-mail address and phone number.
Also, the new Android Fring provides a better communication experience through its voice improvements and bug fixes.
3. Skype
The new Android Skype is quite similar to the iPhone version. When signing in, you could immediately see who of your contacts are online. You can send messages and make calls over Wi-Fi or a standard 3G connection.
Call quality is quite clear. There might be instances when the connection jumps but all in all, the experience is pleasant.
The Skype looks fantastic physically. Navigation is easy and the menus are colorful and sharp.
4. Guava
With Guava, you can make free calls to any US number using your Google Voice and Gizmo5 account. Also, Guava allows you to receive calls to your Google Voice number provided you have an internet connection. You can also send text messages to US phones with this application.
5. Viber for Android beta
Viber lets you call Viber user over 3G and Wi-Fi connection. This application also allows free text messaging. With Viber, you can have unlimited calling and texting to any Viber user on either Android or iPhone.
The Android version of Viber is said to have unique features such as full call screen and pop-up text message notifications. Also, you can set Viber as your default dialer.
If you decide to purchase an Android gadget for yourself, do not forget to take advantage of the vast virtual market. Although some applications for communication come with a certain price, it would be best to start downloading the free applications first to determine which ones really work for you. Most Android applications offer occasional updates, so any bug or glitch in the system will be fixed in due time.

The HTC Sensation or the Apple iPhone 4S

Mobile technology is ever evolving. Sadly, with all the cutting edge smartphones offered by various manufacturers, it is easy to get lost in the confusion. In the market, there are two platforms that reign supreme. These are handsets made by Apple and phones made by Android manufacturers. Let's compare the iOS-powered iPhone 4S and the HTC Sensation to help you device which phone suits you.
When it comes to software, both sides will claim to be the best. Apple's smartphone comes pre-installed with the latest version of the iOS. This is the iOS 5. This new iteration of the Apple mobile OS offers a number of new features such as iMessage, the Cards app, Twitter integration, and so much more. It also comes with an app exclusive to the phone. This is the personal assistant Siri.
HTC's former flagship is pre-installed with the Android OS version 2.3. This is the smartphone-optimized Gingerbread OS. This is a previous version of Google's mobile operating system. However, Google has officially launched the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. This is set to unify both the smartphone-optimized Gingerbread with the tablet-optimized Honeycomb. The Taiwanese phone giant has promised to issue an update for its latest smartphones soon.
When it comes to hardware, the iPhone 4S comes with an 8 megapixel camera that records videos in 1080p. The HTC Sensation comes with a similar camera. The both come packed with dual-core processors under the hood. The iOS-powered smartphone comes packed with a 1 GHz dual-core processor coupled with 512 MB of RAM under the hood. HTC's former flagship comes packed with a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor coupled with 768 MB of RAM under the hood. When it comes to performance, HTC's smartphones clearly has an advantage over Apple's flagship.
If you're looking for real estate, the HTC Sensation also has an advantage over the iPhone 4S. HTC's handset sports a 4.3 inch S-LCD capacitive touch screen. This is larger compared to 4S's 3.5 inch display. Although Apple's phone offers more resolution (640 x 960 pixels) due to its Retina Display, the Taiwanese phone manufacturer's phone offers resolution (540 x 960 pixels) not too far behind from the iOS-powered handset.
Both phones come with their own pros and cons. All the information found here will help you determine which smartphone is more for you. Will it be the iPhone 4S? Will it be the HTC Sensation? It's up to you to decide.
