android 2.3

Android 2.3, aka Gingerbread, is a new version of the Android development platform. It comes with many salient features for the users; for the Android development aficionados, Android 2.3 includes many new technologies and APIs that support developing great apps. This version comes with dozens of changes and a few ground breaking Android mobile applications technologies are highlighted below.
User Interface Refinement
The updated user interface makes it easy for users to control and navigate the features of the device. Menus, notification bars, and other user interface items are rendered with vivid colors on a black background. The user interface is designed for better power efficiency and refined for faster learning and easy usage.
Efficient Text Input
Android 2.3 comes with an improved on-screen keyboard enabling faster input, intuitive typing, and quick editing. The keys are redesigned for optimum placement and targeting - it is easy to view and select the keys accurately. The device displays suggestions from the dictionary to correct entered text. Multi touch key c-hording allows the user input symbols and numbers faster by selecting Shift+and?123+ - no need to switch input forms any longer.

Control Over Applications And Power Saving
Android 2.3 introduces the "task killer" which can be used to terminate misbehaving Android applications. This version gives the user a better insight into the apps running in the background, memory usage, and CPU time usage. This lets the user to exercise increased control over the power consumption by the system and Android applications. The application settings provide details on battery usage and relative power consumed by each app. Android 2.3 proactively takes care of apps that keep the device awake for too long and monitors disproportionate consumption of CPU resources. Through these new features, Android 2.3 ensures optimum device performance with efficient batter power utilization.
Native Code Development Features
Android 2.3 comes with Release 5 of Native Development Kit (NDK), giving Android developers a leg up to scale the productivity peak. The Android developers can now receive input and sensor events, create sound, design 3D graphics contexts, access storage, utilize assets among others. The sensor types now supported are gyroscope, linear acceleration, rotation vector and barometer sensors, which enable Android developers to accurately track device motions and orientation changes. New apps provide control over audio handling via native code through management of audio devices, audio input/output controls, etc. Enhanced native code development is a significant empowerment for any Android development company.
New Communications Options
VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is now integrated into Android 2.3 though you will have to get a SIP account from a 3rd party. VoIP lets you make voice calls over the Internet to other users who have SIP accounts. Near-field communication or NFC is a new way of communicating via tags. The NFC Reader that comes with Android 3.2 can be used to read NFC tags and act upon information contained in it. Additionally, all downloads, whether from your browser, email, or other apps, are now managed in a centralized location. This gives the user convenient access to all downloaded content. The common download is managed by a new download manager, which can be used by different applications to store content in a single location. Also, Android 3.2 comes with the camera app, which gives you access to the multiple cameras on your device.

As promised, Google has started rolling out Android 4.1.1 update for the HSPA+ version of Galaxy Nexus smartphone and the recently launched Nexus 7 tablet. The update is being released over-the-air in batches and should reach all the devices very soon.

The update size is 147MB for Galaxy Nexus smartphone running on IMM76I build, while users with Galaxy Nexus on I/O Jelly Bean build of JRN84D will get an 8.50MB update.
Although Nexus 7 is still not available to consumers, the lucky developers who got the device at Google I/O 2012, are also getting the Android 4.1.1 update. This update also brings the tablet to JRO03C build. The update size is 12.6MB.
In terms of the changes, this update brings offline voice recognition, Google Now, improved text input and UI improvements.
Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean was officially announced last month along with Nexus 7 and Nexus Q devices. Not a huge upgrade over Ice Cream Sandwich, it aims to make the user interface more fluid and bring Google search’s knowledge graph functionality to voice search in Android.

iphone plans

The competition for the iPhone market is gearing up as both Verizon and AT&T plan to battle it out for the hearts and minds of consumers in the wake of the recent announcement that Verizon will begin selling the popular smart phone mobile device in early February of 2011. Effectively putting an end to AT&T's monopoly over the iPhone market, this plan marks a clear step forward for both consumers and the electronics community.

Verizon is starting off swinging, with new features and the enticing possibility of improved service through its CDMA network. But the most exciting possibility may be an unlimited data plan, which could very well attract a great deal of attention from customers. The Wall Street Journal reported on the 9th of January that Verizon may plan to aggressively push an unlimited data plan as an alternative to AT&T's plans, which may be slightly less expensive but are very tightly capped.

Verizon originally began experimenting with an unlimited data plan for selected smart phones back in April of 2008, and such plans by Verizon as well as other companies have been a very popular option among many consumers. Surveys have shown that consumers tend to prefer these kinds of unlimited data plans for their smart phones, so this could be a very profitable offer for Verizon to keep on the table.

Some have suggested, though, that this may be a risky strategy if it turns out that Verizon's CDMA network is unable to keep up with the demand of users migrating over to their services en masse. These concerns may be a little overblown; however, as such a scenario seems to be a little too unrealistically optimistic about Verizon's impending impact. It's safe to predict, though, that both Verizon and Apple will greatly benefit from this change in the marketplace.

The unlimited data plan isn't all as it seems, though. Data plans for use of the 3G and 4G mobile broadband continue to be capped, and while the "unlimited" plan doesn't set a specific cap, Verizon does reserve the right to interfere if a customer generates more than 5 gigabytes worth of bandwidth. This serves basically as a cap by another name, but it's a much higher cap than other plans and may therefore still be considered a worthwhile alternative by the community of iPhone enthusiasts.
AT&T has, as of yet, shown no inclination to offer any form of unlimited data plan. The telecommunication company's current maximum offering is capped at 2 gigabytes per month for a monthly payment of twenty five dollars. Plans change, however, and AT&T may eventually find itself in a position where offering such a plan to consumers becomes an attractive option for bringing in new subscribers.
We will have to wait until February to see how everything plays out, but it's certain to be an interesting show. iPhone users are cautiously optimistic that this will all result in a greater range of service and selection for their favorite smart phone mobile device.

How to Install Android 2.2 on Your HTC HD2 (Part ...

at&t iphone

Both the iPhone and the Tilt are AT&T smartphones (at least in the United States), however, the overall main difference between the iPhone and the AT&T Tilt, according, at least, to the way the two devices are being marketed, is that the iPhone is being targeted more towards the consumer-user and the AT&T Tilt towards the business-user. Both smartphones, however, have excellent qualities appealing to both types of users.

Both the AT&T Tilt and the iPhone are touch screen smartphones, though the iPhone touch screen can be controlled by your fingers whereas controlling the AT&T Tilt touch screen requires using the included stylus. Beyond the touch screen, the iPhone has a single multi-purpose navigator button while the AT&T Tilt has several additional buttons.
Unlike the iPhone, the AT&T Tilt sports a unique screen design that allows users to slide out a full QWERTY keyboard from behind the main casing and tilt the display upwards so the user can view and control the phone similarly to the way one would a laptop or PC. The iPhone is a single candy bar unit with no sliding parts, though both the iPhone and the AT&T Tilt can be turned sideways for a widescreen view of the display screen as an alternative to the standard portrait.
The weaknesses of the feature-rich iPhone are in the way of the basic, essential functions of a smartphone - call quality and speed of the data network. Even though the AT&T Tilt uses the same EDGE data network as the iPhone, the Tilt has a wider array of wireless options available, including access to the 3G network, a feature the current generation of iPhone's cannot claim (though a 3G iPhone is reportedly in the works). Also, according to a perusal of online customer feedback, the Tilt also boasts superior call quality over the iPhone. Having said that, however, the iPhone has up to 480 minutes of talk-time whereas the max talk time on the AT&T Tilt is only about half that.
In the way of features, the digital camera on the AT&T Tilt is 3.0 megapixels while the iPhone's is only 2.0 megapixels. The Tilt includes a GPS but the iPhone does not. The call history on the Tilt is more substantial, indicating talk time duration and other details not available in the iPhone's call history. Likewise, the Tilt displays a distinction between calls received and calls made whereas the iPhone does not. The processor on the AT&T Tilt is significantly slower than that of the iPhone, with a much higher tendency to freeze up and necessitate a reboot. The iPhone has a much larger built-in storage capacity (at 4-8 GB) while the AT&T Tilt can only hold 128 MB.
The major sweeping difference between the two devices is that the iPhone runs on Apple's Mac OS X while the AT&T Tilt runs on Windows Mobile 6 Professional, which is tantamount to the difference between any Mac PC or laptop and the equivalent Windows PC or laptop. So the AT&T Tilt offers users, for example, the full Windows Office Mobile suite of programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) while iPhone users benefit from all the innovative software resulting from the newly issued iPhone SDK (software development kit). The bottom line here is that, since most computer-users classify themselves as either Mac-people or Windows-people, the decision as to which device is "better" really boils down to one's personal preference between Mac and Windows.
The AT&T Tilt sells for at least $100 less than the iPhone.

4g iphone

When Steve Jobs revealed the Apple iPhone 4G during his 2010 Keynote address, the announcement was met with much speculation and skepticism. Why now? Why so soon? Why the necessity? These are just some of the questions that greeted the advent of the newest model in Apple's flagship line.

But in this iPhone 4G review, we wish to assure you, the prospective end user, that the newest iteration of the popular handheld device truly, certainly, absolutely, undoubtedly ROCKS!
Stop asking how to afford an iPhone 4G. There are many ways to score a free iPhone 4G anyway, which we will discuss later on. For now, take a look at 10 fabulous reasons why you should own the next incarnation of the world's most popular mobile phone.
1. Video calling. This is, perhaps, the most exciting addition to the Apple iPhone 4G. With the addition of a front camera, video calling is now possible. You can use IM video conferencing, video calls allowed by your network, or Apple's proprietary video chat application, the iChat.
2. Sexier design. The iPhone 4G is said to be 25% lighter and thinner than previous models. Aesthetically, this would mean a sleeker, sexier design. Functionally, this would also mean that people with delicate hands - particularly females - will have an easier time handling the device.
3. Longer battery life. For this iPhone 4G review, the longer battery life promised by Apple is the clincher. After all, our enjoyment of this cellphone greatly depends on how long we can use it. With more than 30% battery life added to the unit, we can be guaranteed of a longer time in enjoying the new things that the iPhone 4G can offer.
4. Front cam applications. Of course, the front camera isn't only good for video calling. A slew of applications are now being developed to make good use of this new feature. Imagine, a game where you - with your exact likeness - would be the protagonist. Or a real time makeover app? The possibilities are endless.
5. Higher resolution. The unit boasts of a 960 x 540 resolution, a fantastic dimension for mobile devices. HD videos would look amazing on the iPhone 4G's new OLED screen. And with the improved HD audio playback promised by Apple, you can have a marvelous multimedia experience on the go!
6. Better camera. Improved to 5 megapixels, the newest version of the popular product just made an already impressive image capturing feature even more powerful and noteworthy! Also, the 4G model now has a flash!
7. Lower price, with no subscription plans. At $199 for 32GB and $299 for 64GB, this should put a stop to searches for answers to the question how to buy an iPhone without subscription. You're free to choose a telecommunications network you're comfortable with, and you won't have to worry about a restrictive lock-in period.
8. Better WiFi connectivity. The newest model will finally support 802.11n, which will make it at par with its current generation rivals, the Google Nexus One and HTC HD2.
9. Multitasking capabilities. Tired of having to close an app just to open up a new one? Well, the 4G model will finally, FINALLY allow you to multitask, i.e. to open up several applications simultaneously. This iPhone 4G review's reaction can be summarized in 3 words: it's about time!
10. The small things that pack a wallop. Unified mailbox. A folder for apps. New wallpaper and background options. True GPS built in. These are just some of the many more software additions to the model, making it the best iteration of the product to date.
So, what's the verdict of this Apple iPhone 4G review? Is Apple's newest product worth the purchase?
You can decide for yourself as you don't have to buy a unit. You can avail of the free iPhone 4G offer at http://www.get-free-iphone-4g.info by signing up to test the model and eventually owning the phone that will be given to you. No commitment necessary. iphone 4 case

iPhone from Apple has revolutionized the world of smart phones. There are very few products today which can compete with an iPhone on the basis of its applications and technology. Acquiring an iPhone is the dream of all gadget freaks as it has features that makes life simpler and connect the world at your touch.

For a phone that comes with a 4 inch display and is fully touch sensitive, covers or cases are almost a necessity for its protection. Like the iPhone which has taken a leap in the area of phones to become one of the most coveted phones, the cases for iPhone have also been designed to match the class and quality of the product. What sets apart the cases for the iPhone is the variety in which these are available and the quality of the material they are made out of. The covers predominantly safe guard the iPhone from scratches and strain.
However in some cases the touch screen is exposed and this provides a problem for the safety issue. Cases also speak for fashion, and the ones in vibrant colors are the most popular ones. With soft plastic or other materials, these covers provide a strong grip for the phone and ensures that the iPhone stays safe.
Going a little overboard on the budget, one can also purchase cases for iPhone that comes in metals. The most costly ones would be diamond studded cases that are custom-made and are hence very costly. These cases are used by limited people as these exceed the cost of the phone itself.
iPhone users are spoilt for choice in terms of cases as there are options both in terms of material and type. Pouch covers are also a rage as these protect the iPhone with maximum effect. iPhone 4 cases are uniquely identified by the logo of the half-bitten apple on the outer side of the covers. These are the authentic cases for your iPhone.
Besides the iPhone 4 cases from apple one can also go on for cases from other manufacturers that are specially made for the iPhone. A phone that will completely mesmerize you with its smooth technology, impressive design and endless applications deserves a case that matches the product both in terms of quality and design. iPhone 4 cases are only one of the many accessories that can be used for the product. Go ahead and style your phone the way you want it.

iphone 4 white

When any technology gadget has two colors one of the first questions that is always asked: "Is one color for men and the other for women?" The simple answer when it comes to the white iPhone 4 vs. the Black iPhone 4 is NO. In fact, many discussion boards and websites have looked in to this very thing. Although there is no hard evidence coming from Apple it seems that iPhone color is chosen more based on individual taste than gender specific guidelines.

There was a questionnaire on Macforum.com that asked iPhone users to state what color iPhone they have and what their gender was. The questionnaire had some surprising results.
  • Male with Black iPhone: 106 people or 53.54%
  • Male with White iPhone: 72 people or 36.36%
  • Female with Black iPhone: 10 people or 5.05%
  • Female with White iPhone: 10 people or 5.05%

Although this survey is not scientific by any means, it does give us some insight. Men were more likely to have a black iPhone than a white iPhone but women were just as likely to have either (although this is from a significantly smaller sample size). Surveys on other websites returned much the same results but in most cases even women chose the black iPhone over the white iPhone. When asked which color iPhone 4 do you want the results were still consistent.
The bottom line is that both men and women actually prefer the black iPhone the white. With the iPhone 3G and 3Gs both white and black models were offered and the black constantly out sold the white. The same is true for Google searches when a new iPhone is going to be released. Early on, when both the black and white iPhone 4s were going to be released, average monthly Google searches for black iPhone 4 far outpaced that for white iPhone 4. Black iPhone 4 had 2,900 searches while the white iPhone 4 had 10% of that at 260. Across the board, both male and female, black iPhones are more popular than their white brethren. The fact that seems to get lost most is that these are white and black iPhones not pink and black iPhones. If that were the case there would probably be a much more pronounced gender preference.
When multiple people were asked which color iPhone they wanted the answers were never uniform based on gender:
"I'm going to get the white iPhone 4 because it has a clean look to it and I hear finger smudges won't show up as much." -Trent Pirillo
"I like the black iPhone 4 for its slick design. The chrome looks much better on black than it does on white." -Julie Hodge
"I have the black one because it is already out and I don't have to wait for it. I don't care about the color because I put a cover on my iPhone anyways." -Paul Bowman
It is hard to tell whether the iPhone color is a gender thing. From interviews and online surveys it does not seem that gender has anything to do with the color iPhone that a person picks. What is very apparent is that the majority of people like the black iPhone over the white iPhone. When "The White" does finally come out it would be interesting for Apple to release gender specific statistics. Give a choice which would you choose?
