webOS vs Android: Head to Head

Many early adopters of smartphone technology were blown away by the Palm Pre; it was a showcase of smartphone technology, and many of those same early adopters lauded its crisp feel and elegant presentation.
Fast forward to the present: Android and iPhone now dominate the smartphone arena, and webOS has been lagging behind in that arena somewhat severely. HP's new TouchPad, however, is a tablet that uses a new, revamped version of webOS that promises to be a true contender to the Android operating system. Is webOS a viable contender to Android in the tablet arena?
For the most part - yes! The webOS interface is very slick and smooth, and it has the same responsiveness that the Palm Pre did those years ago. Many of the problems that the earlier webOS versions had, like unstable multitasking, have been rectified for this latest incarnation of the operating system.
The operating system also feels very optimized for the tablet form factor, a problem that continues to plague Android tablets running 2.1 or 2.2 (though, to be fair, Google has stated that those Android versions are not intended for tablet use). It does, however, fare very well against Honeycomb, Google's own Android version designed for tablets; the two operating systems are more or less neck and neck in terms of speed, feel of use, and overall usability.
Where webOS is going to have a problem, however, is the number of apps available for the platform. Android's app catalog blows away webOS' app catalog; at last count, Android's app numbers extended into the hundreds of thousands, while webOS' numbers are more in the tens of thousands. It is a deficit caused by the lack of adoption surrounding webOS, true, but it is a deficit that will have to be faced by anyone looking to buy a webOS-based tablet in the future. Quite simply, the sheer amount of Android apps available are a huge value-add for the operating system.
This isn't an insurmountable advantage. Android had the same problem when it squared off against iOS. webOS is a very usable system, and with some effort and savvy marketing HP and other webOS backers could perhaps sway some developers to their side. It is, however, a problem that the webOS community needs to tackle smartly; at the moment webOS isn't as chock-full of apps, and users know it.
Other than that, webOS is a pretty worthy contender to Android. HP's TouchPad seems to be a pretty strong contender and is a great showcase of the webOS operating system itself. If webOS can boost app count and gain some market share, they could be a viable third tablet OS joining the fray; at the moment, however, Android maintains a slight advantage. If we had to declare a winner, we would have to crown Android - for now, at least!

Top Mid-Segment Android Phones of 2011

Within a year of its launch, Google's Android OS for cell phones and tablets has captured the imagination of several generations of cellphone users. Unlike its competitors like Symbian and BADA, Google Android is as smooth as it gets. At the present time, the world is waiting for the release of the next version of the Android OS, which promises to be better than all its predecessors. In this post, we take a look at some of the pocket friendly cellphones that run on Android.
LG Optimus One - This Google branded phone from LG is probably top of the list because it was one of the first to offer Android 2.2 Froyo at an inexpensive price. It is the first Android cellphone which sold more than a million handsets worldwide. This baby from LG comes with a 3.2 inch capacitive touchscreen which is one of the best that I have come across in recent times. The phone has a 3 mega pixel camera which churns out some decent snaps. If you happen to be a gamer, this phone will give you plenty of joy. It also comes with a 1500 MaH battery which keeps it ahead of its competition. The LG Optimus One is the best entry-level android phones around and if sales figures are anything to go by, it is probably the best around.
HTC Wildfire - This phone is the closest competitor to the above mentioned model at the present time. If looks were something to go by, I would easily pick this ahead of the Optimus. The good thing about this phone is that it has a 5 megapixel camera instead of a 3 MP - which is the norm in this range, and a 384 MB RAM instead of a 256 MB one. However, the only flip-side is the fact that this phone still comes with Android 2.1 Eclair and is yet to receive an upgrade in some countries.
Huawei Ideos - The Huawei Ideos has received top ratings in the International market and is a highly rated Android 2.2 Froyo smartphone. The company says that it worked closely with Google to build this phone and it has a lasting effect on you. You can upgrade it to a higher version of android if you wish to do so. It has a 2.8 inch capacitive touch screen display and the touch is pretty good. However, it has a very slow processor compared to the other phones on this list. If this is something that you are willing to compromise on, the Ideos is a great cell phone.
Samsung Galaxy Ace - This is a gem of a smartphone from the house of Samsung. It has a 3.5 inch capacitive touchscreen display - the best of the lot - and also comes loaded with a 5 megapixel camera, A 800 MHz ARM 11 processor, and a 1350 MaH battery. The Galaxy ace also runs android 2.2 Froyo and the Samsung TouchWiz 3.0 user interface along with the Android interface. The rest of the specifications are in sync with the rest of the smartphones listed here - Bluetooth 2.1 A2DP, 3G, WiFi, GPS, and a micro SD card slot. This phone looks awesome and is perfect if you can stretch your budget a wee bit.

iPhone Application - Starting a New Chapter in Communication

Ever since the iPhone has been launched into the market by its manufacturers the Apple Inc, it has been selling like hot cakes. Not only its design but also its features are amazing and unique. The entertainment features are in plenty. By downloading the applications, one can add on to the built in features of the iPhone. Within 30 hours of launching the iPhone, the sale of iPhone has touched 270,000. Apple Inc. has very well understood the needs of the iPhone users and what the smart phone users want in general. Apple Inc. has started designing and developing products that can support iPhone applications developed by third parties too.
Over the years Apple Inc. has launched a series of successful operating systems and devices. These products include iPod, iPhone 3 G, iPad, and Mac OS X. A closer view of iPhone will reveal that it is a blend of three devices. The three devices are internet device, mobile phone and a wide screen.
Most of the people having iPhone now try to access the internet through the iPhone device that they have. Now the website needs to be compatible with the operating system and the platform of the iPhone to be displayed on the screen of the iPhone. It is to facilitate this that Apple Inc has launched iPhone Mac OS X. This Device is web interactive. It is equipped with X code tools and visual features. The SDK and X code tools of Apple Inc facilitate the applications developer with a wide array of support. The developer can manage the repository of the source-code.
Apple Inc. has introduced a novel system of marketing. It has launched the iTunes store which is also called Apple Store. The developers need to submit their applications to the Apple store. The users of the iPhone can only download applications from the Apple Store. So the application developed by the developer needs to be first approved by the Apple store authorities and then only put for sale on the Apple Store. When the iPhone application is sold 70% from the revenue generated goes to the developer while the remaining 30% is retained by the company. Apple Inc. thus provides income generating opportunity for the developers and is proving to the society that it is a socially responsible organization. When the application is approved by the authorities at Apple Store, the user who downloads the application is sure that the application is not going to harm the device. The user of the iPhone is facilitated with a wide choice of applications. This way the iPhone user can add as many features to the device as he/she wants.
