5 Awesome Android GPS Apps

As the Android Market grew in popularity, many developers created useful applications. Even until now, they constantly upgrade their versions to keep the users attached to such applications. GPS used to be limited in big-time companies and major institutions, but with certain applications, you can enable your portable gadget to use the amazing GPS technology.
It does not matter if you own a smartphone or a tablet PC, as Android has got the figured out already. For as long as you use Android as your operating system, your choices of downloading the finest GPS application are endless. By using a GPS-enabled gadget, you are able to track a certain person or locate a friend.
What sort of GPS application should you choose, then? There are free applications, and there are those that come with a small price. Surely, you can find hundreds of them in the Android Market, but here are the 5 best:
1. Google Maps Navigation
Internet giant Google has invented many clever technologies, and Google Maps is certainly one of its finest inventions yet. This application is available for Android versions 1.6 and higher. Unlike other GPS applications, Google Maps allows you to take a look at locations using Street View or Satellite View. You can also zoom into the map if you want a clearer and more precise view. Even if you are in the farthest corner of the world, you can never go wrong with Google Maps.
2. Loopt
This portable Android version offers amazing features like receiving notifications when a friend is spotted at a nearby location. You can also toggle between map and satellite modes. With Loopt, it is possible to share information through social media like Twitter, Facebook and MySpace.
3. Glympse
By using T-Mobile G1's GPS technology, fellow Glympse users can identify your current whereabouts, which they can share to friends, family and colleagues. What makes this application tick is that you need not register or login, so you need not share or add personal information. Adding friends is also not required. Glympse is quite safe, as viewing your location can only be seen for 15 minutes to 4 hours.
4. Locale
Many users are raving about this application, because of its convenience and simplicity. By using your location, your phone settings can be adjusted conveniently. Simple reminders like charging your battery and turning your phone to silent mode in cinemas are actually possible. This is perfect for people who tend to forget little day-to-day things, as you can configure your gadget to do whatever you want.
5. CoPilot
This is the perfect GPS application for the jet setter and the occasional traveler. With CoPilot, you can plan your routes and access maps, which can be downloaded to your gadget. If you have an SD card with a larger memory, you can fit the whole map of North America. Aside from its amazing features, CoPilot has a striking yet user-friendly interface. This application also allows you to use voice alerts, which you can take advantage of even while driving.

5 Awesome iPhone Apps Redesigned for Android

In the apps department, the iPhone is currently leading over Android phones. To date, there are about 230,000 apps available in the Apple Store for the iPhone device. In comparison, there are some 70,000 apps for Android phones. These numbers are changing daily, as more and more apps are added to each group. But according to industry experts, at the rate that apps are now being produced, it is likely that by the middle of 2012, there will be more Android apps than iPhone or iOS apps (iOS is the operating platform for Apple products such as the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad).
One reason why Android apps will soon outnumber iOS apps is that, simply put, there is greater demand for Android apps. In the smart phone market, Android has the indisputable lead. More phone manufacturers have adopted the Android operating system, while the only smart phone that uses the iOS platform is still the iPhone only. HTC, Samsung and Motorola all use Android in their smart phones, and seven of their models has made it to the top ten list of the most popular smart phones in the U.S. today. With more phones and more people on the Android bandwagon, apps developers have their hands full creating more Android apps to satisfy the huge market demand.
Not surprisingly, some iPhone apps have been converted into Android versions and installed in fully functional mode in Android phones. As a result, a number of the most popular iPhone apps now have their Android counterparts. Below are five of the trendiest and most useful apps that can now be found in both iOS and Android devices:
1. Dropbox - This is a very helpful "cloud" service that allows users to store files and then sync them automatically across various gadgets or computers. With a Dropbox account-which comes free, by the way-a person can have easy access to files he saved on his Windows PC, iPad, iPhone or Mac computer. This is a perfect storage solution as well as an answer to file-syncing problems of people who use multiple computing devices.
2. Evernote - This is a note-taking app that also employs "cloud-syncing" to update copies of important notes that a person may make and keep on multiple devices. Note-taking is an important function of smart phones (and indispensable at work), and with Evernote, a person always has access to all his notes no matter what device he has on hand.
3. Documents To Go - There is a free version of this document viewing and editing app for both iPhone and Android phones. The free app makes text and spreadsheet documents, similar to Word and Excel files. But it is not capable of making slideshows such as those in PowerPoint files. For those who want PowerPoint-like functionality, an upgrade to the full version is needed. This upgrade will also remove certain restrictions found in the free version.
4. Amazon Kindle - This mobile app lets a person browse through the very well-stocked Kindle bookstore. The app also lets one purchase, download and then read books he has chosen. The download time is quite fast, often taking less than a minute.
5. Pandora - This app is used to stream songs or audio files. The user can make his own playlist by searching for song titles or artist names.

Siri for iPhone 4

One of the great new features on the iPhone 4S is the launch of Siri, the voice activation function which allows users to send text messages, call people and schedule meetings using their voice. iPhone 4S users can literally talk to their device and make it perform various tasks which previously needed activation through the phone's touch screen.
While iPhone 4S users are enjoying this wonderful new technology, iPhone 4 users are wondering if they can get their phones also to work using Siri. There has been a lot of discussion online whether Siri for iPhone 4 can ever be implemented.
Some hackers have claimed that they were able to port Siri to an iPhone 4. They had installed Siri and some of its Springboard files to an iPhone 4 and got the Siri port started up. However, they found that performance was not up to the mark. Siri apparently requires a special GPU driver which sadly is not present on the iPhone 4.
Many have also complained that Apple seems to want iPhone 4 users to not be able to use Siri, so that they would ultimately be forced to upgrade to an iPhone 4S. They base their claim on the fact that Apple does not authenticate voice commands sent to its servers from iPhone 4 devices using Siri.
Most technologists are of the opinion that Siri is just an App and not really a new technology. It is basically a software that can run on a variety of different devices as long as the devices can support it. They believe that it should not be extremely difficult for Siri to work on the iPhone 4 instead of requiring a totally upgraded phone like the 4S. Most of them are disgusted with the idea that Apple seems to have made Siri to work only on the 4S just to make more sales.
It is estimated that Apple sold a million iPhone 4S devices on the very first day of its launch. Another 4 million phones were reportedly sold over that first weekend. A large percentage of buyers would have bought the 4S just for the voice activation functions available through Siri. A lot of critiques feel that if those same functions were made available on the iPhone 4, Apple might not have seen such phenomenal sales of the 4S.
Only time will tell if Siri for iPhone 4 will become a reality in the future. Since Siri is only an App, it should be possible to port it to a similar platform with slightly lesser capabilities. Until then, Siri for iPhone 4 will probably be just a dream for many iPhone 4 users.

iPhone Tracker That Helps You To Monitor Locations And Activities Made

Do you need a good iPhone tracker that you can use to track the phone and see where it goes? There are a lot of options when it comes to accomplishing this, and you have a great bonus: you can see much more than where the phone is. In fact, with today's technology, you will see where the phone is in real-time based on the GPS data, as well as text messages being sent and received. You can also see emails, browser history, phone contact information and call logs. Let's get into the article below and find out a bit more about this iPhone tracker that you can use.
How iPhone Trackers Work
There are two kinds of trackers that you can use to get this done. You can either go with the hardware-based versions, which are a little more traditional - or you can use a piece of software that you put on the phone. I always go with the latter, since hardware can fall out easily and/or need updating. Imagine if you put the tracker on a phone that isn't yours, and then you find out you have to update the hardware? How are you going to get to the phone and do that? Software is much, much better - you avoid all of these headaches.
Which iPhone Tracker to Use? How to Choose
You're going to want to download the tracker that you find the most compelling. I wouldn't buy one that has a physical disc or anything, instead just download one that is in high regard with their customers. For instance, if you find one that has a lot of customers saying it's great, then that should be good enough for you to try it out. You can also read a bit more detailed reviews so that you can double check it's something you're going to be happy with.
Download the Best iPhone Tracker Here
I've done a lot of research into this topic, and based on my research I can tell you that the following tracker has been placed on #1 due to the fact that it's easy to use, easy to install, undetectable and that it actually works.

Reasons For Choosing (Or Not Choosing) An iPhone

This topic seems to be very popular in today's mobile wireless world. "Why should I get an iPhone.... or why should I NOT get an iPhone? The answer doesn't have to be as complicated as many make it out to be. Of course personal preferences play a part... but you can simplify an answer down to some basic considerations.
Beyond these... you're just nitpicking.
For example.......
The reasons why you should choose the iPhone are:
- Ability to check email from anywhere
- Ability to find my way with either the Maps or the Say Where app (great free app - you just speak where you want to go and it maps it out for you so you don't need to type when you're driving)
- Ability to easily find what I'm looking for - even if it's a last minute thing - iWant app is an awesome free app that allows you to find anything from gas stations to cinemas - comes in handy when you're in a new area
- Ability to use the iPod - don't need to carry around a separate piece of technology to listen to music
Basically it comes down to the fact that you now have one piece of equipment that is your Phone, Calendar, Music Player, Maps, Camera (when you actually need one). Being that your iPhone is used for everything.... make sure you keep backups - sure don't want to lose anything.
As far as reasons not to choose the iPhone, it just works until...
... the internal battery dies outside of warranty
... you want to enter more than one APN (commercial data plan, corporate mail server)
... you want to use a music service other than the inbuilt iPod while... well, doing anything else other than using that single service
... you want to do background downloading
... you want to store more than 32GB of stuff on memory cards and swap them
The iPhone is great for consumer grade stuff. Android has been built to do a little more heavy lifting. Plus, the Nexus One is more powerful and cheaper.
If you're in the market for any of the iPhone, Android, or Nexus One.... you can get more details, peruse articles with further discussion, and find resources on where order online (at a discount) at Broadband Nation.

Android Tablets Gain on iPad

Is the iPad invincible? Some seem to think so, but sales records are beginning to show otherwise. There are several Android tablet models that are gaining on the ever-popular iPad. Apple is trying to counter this with the introduction of the iPad 2, but will it work? Only time will tell. Android internet tablets could quite possibly outsell the Apple iPad in coming years, especially since they are priced well below that of the iPad and contain the same or better specs and performance threshold. Are Android internet tablets too good to be true? Android fans don't think so!
Of the most likely competitors, Archos is leading the way with a line of internet tablet with Android devices. The Archos 101 Android tablet is one of the best sellers. Why is this? The Archos 101 does it all and some say it does it even better than the iPad. With a low price, superior performance, and a sleek profile, who can argue?
More about the Archos 101:
Android enthusiasts love the fact that the Archos 101 internet tablet with Android allows them to download all their favorite Android apps, play HD videos on the 10.1" capacitive touch screen display, record TV programs and play back HD videos on a TV using the HDMI connection, and more. The WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity add to the irresistible nature of this super cool Android tablet. For those partial to the Android OS, this Archos creation is a match made in heaven.
And the other contenders...
The Samsung Galaxy Tab is another contender in the race for internet tablet with Android superiority. Previously priced at around $600, the Galaxy Tab is now available for around $200. This tablet does it all and can be considered a much better choice than an iPad - and just as cool. Don't pass this one up.
The Toshiba Folio 100 is another great option when it comes to Android-running tablets. Folio 100 owners can download apps from the Android Marketplace, enjoy a fast boot up time and longer battery life, WiFi, Bluetooth capability, HDMI ports, and more. This is a great 10.1 inch Android tablet choice for loyal Android users everywhere.
Whichever Android device you choose, you are sure to appreciate the benefits of an Android powered experience. It is encouraged that you see for yourself just what an Android experience can bring. You won't be disappointed with your Android powered tablet purchase.

iPhone Vs Android

AT&T has the iPhone and until just recently the smart phone Goliath was king of the castle. Back in late October, Verizon Wireless unleashed the Motorola Droid, a device that runs on the android platform. Another Android phone gaining a great deal of hype is the Nexus One by Google. Apple actually went after Google with a patent lawsuit. It's no secret that Apple's Steve Jobs and Google CEO Eric Schmidt aren't very fond of one another. The Google CEO was asked to step down from the Apple Board and an Anti-trust investigation was started. Schmidt said he wanted to "Kill the iPhone" and Jobs to offense to that saying something along the lines of,
"We didn't enter the search game, they entered the phone game so they clearly want to kill the iPhone."
So the war of words had begun. The Google Nexus One is already available on the T-Mobile and AT&T networks and will be available for the Verizon network in the second quarter of 2010. With Apple being the first player in the touch screen mobile device arena there hasn't been a worthy adversary until now.
The new Android platform is growing by leaping and bounds everyday and many mobile app developers are creating iPhone apps but also latching on to the android platform. One of the drawbacks to the Android platform early on was that the Apple App Store dwarfed that of Android but over the recent months more and more Android apps are becoming available and Android is actually taking a decent portion of the market back from Apple.
Here are some comparisons between the technologies.
Android:
Operating system: Android OS that uses a modified version of Linux kernel. Originally developed by Android, Inc. and recently purchased by Google; Allows developers to write managed code in Java.; Allows users to multi-task.
Phones available on the Android platform: Motorola droid, HTC Nexus One, HTC Eris, HTC Hero,HTC Tattoo, MyTouch 3G, LG Eve just to name a few.
iPhone:
Operating system: iPhone OS-Derived from the Mac OS X, shares the Darwin foundation. The OS has four abstraction layers, the core OS layer, the core services layer, the media layer and the cocoa touch layer. The OS uses less than500 MB of the device's memory. Unable to multi-task.
Phones available on the iPhone platform: Apple iPhone
From just looking at these stats, I think the Android Platform is going to be the next big thing with smart phones. The iPhone just seems so locked up and controlled. I know you can "jailbreak" the iPhone but who wants to do that to their device? I really like the Nexus One, it has a sleek design and has the ability to multi-task. I know the apps aren't to level of the iPhone just yet, but give them time and I'm sure they will be more than worthy in a year or so.

iPhone and iPad Application Development - Designing App Icons

2010 has seen a sudden upsurge in the market of Mobile iOS devices. There astronomical rise in the sales of iPhones and iPads. The Apple Application Store is directly accessible to the iPhone, iPad and iPod devices that run on the iOS.
When any iOS designer submits the mobile application, he/she has to also submit the icon along with it. The process of developing an icon could consume a bit of time but its returns are handsome too.
There are different icons each having different size and used for specific purpose. There are different devices that run the iOS. This implies that the application designer has to know which sort of icon is to be used when and how.
Icon sizes for iPhone /iPod applications:
The Icon sizes for Application, iPhone 4, App Store, Spotlight Search and iPhone 4 spotlights are 57x57px, 114x114px, 512x512px, 29x29px and 58x58px respectively.
There are not many variations in the icon sizes for iPhone applications. The size of the official application icon which is displayed on the home screen of the user is 57x57px. Higher resolution is also supported by the iPhone 4 so it is better to include the icon with size 114x114px, though not necessary.
The largest icon size that is recommended is 512 x 512px. This icon is quite big. This icon is meant for being displayed over the App Store as well as when the visitor is browsing the applications in Cover Mode. When you start a new icon design with the help of the Photoshop it is better to start initially at 512px and then slowly decreasing the scale.
Icons with a bit smaller size of 29×29px are supported for Spotlight search. The iPhone 4 features screen with higher resolutions and because of this the icon size for spotlight search should be 58×58px.
Icon sizes for iPad applications:
The Icon sizes for iPad Application, App Store, Spotlight Search and Settings are 72x72px, 512x512px, 50x50px, and 29x29px respectively.
The touch screen of the iPad is comparatively larger than that of the iPhone or iPod. This allows the application icon to be a bit larger. It is 72x72px. The size of the App Store Icon which is 512x512px is the same as in the case of iPhone. The icon size for Spotlight Search is 50x50px. The icon of the size 29x29px can be used as a setting icon.
A small icon will be displayed beside the tab if a settings page is created within the general functionality of the iOS. This allows inclusion of different user names and accounts and change of themes too. The smaller or minor options of the application can also be fiddled with because of this arrangement.
The application developer should also note that the applications that offer icons in PNG files are only accepted by the Apple App Store.

How to Sell iPhone Apps - 3 Steps to Make Money Selling Your Apps Online

Over 30 million iPhones have been purchased so far, meaning you have a perfect opportunity to sell an app to a huge audience and make money online.
But where do you get started selling an iPhone app? Learn the 3 steps you need to take if you want to make and sell apps and find out tips for boosting your sales along the way.
Step 1. Create an iPhone app
The first step to successfully selling your app is to make a product worth buying. While this may sound obvious, development is one of the most important parts of the process if you want to make money later.
You first need to have an original idea that will get customers excited. Then, you can either learn how to write the code yourself - there are many helpful websites and books available to teach you how to do it - or you can hire a developer to do it for you.
Step 2. Submit it to the App Store
Apple's App Store is a thriving marketplace for customers to find and buy your software so it is important for you to sell your app there as soon as you complete development.
Before you start selling your app, Apple must first approve it. Visit their website and carefully read the rules for submitting your software before you send it in. After approval, you can begin selling your app and making money on the App Store.
Step 3. Marketing your app
Your job is not done once you receive your approval, however. To sell more apps, you must start marketing it to potential customers.
There are many ways to promote your product online and boost your sales, including many free marketing tactics. For example, you can submit your app to review sites. While not every review site will write about you, it can be an effective way to promote iPhone apps like yours without spending any money.
More and more iPhones are being sold every day, and buyers all want the latest apps for it. If you want to make money by selling apps to this growing audience, follow these 3 steps to make and sell your app today.

Cheapest iPhone 4S Deals Not Always The Best Offer for Consumers

The new Apple iPhone 4S in both White and Black colour schemes has now received new pay monthly contract deals that are officially the cheapest available over a 24 month agreement, however as tempting as these iPhone 4S deals look they are not necessarily the best option for general consumers.
These new cheapest deals for the iPhone 4S 16GB cost just £20 per month line rental and are now available on the Orange network in the UK, for the line rental charge the consumer gets 50 inclusive minutes to use to make calls at any time of the day and to any mobile network (including landline calls), 50 text messages and 100MB of inclusive internet access.
The iPhone 4S also needs to be paid for with an upfront price of £309.99 which makes the overall cost of the 24 month contract £789.99, this is significantly cheaper than the cheapest deal for a free iPhone 4S which is currently £41 per month and will cost the consumer £984.00 for the minimum term contract period.
These may sound like amazing iPhone 4S deals with a total saving of £194.01 but this is a very deceiving figure, for those consumers that use their phone regularly the minimal amount of inclusive minutes, text and data could cause a real problem.
Once these allocated volumes have been reached and exceeded the customer is liable for any extra usage which can soon accumulate over the space of a month, just 50 minutes of calls equates to less than 2 minutes of conversation per day and for anyone that enjoys using their iPhone 4S for web browsing, emails, downloading content or general updating of running applications the small 100MB of inclusive data may not be enough.
The costs of calls outside the allocated volume is notoriously expensive with some networks charging up to 35p per minute, this is also true for data usage and one of the main culprits of using substantial amounts of data is by watching online video clips or movies, these are data hungry practices and can soon eat into and exceed smaller data allocations of the cheaper contract tariffs.
The advice is simple, whenever consumers look to buy a new mobile phone they should always try to match their current usage requirements as close as possible to minimise any extra charges for exceeding their tariff limits, this is one reason that a more expensive deal for the iPhone 4S is proving the most popular of all.
This is offered by the 3 Mobile network and costs £35 per month line rental, for this the consumer can enjoy a healthy 1GB of data usage, 500 inclusive minutes of calls and 5000 text messages every month with an upfront charge for the iPhone 4S of £49.00, although the overall cost of the 24 month contract equates to £889.00 this could far outweigh the charges for exceeding the limits of a cheaper tariff.
