Android 2.3

Android 2.3, aka Gingerbread, is a new version of the Android development platform. It comes with many salient features for the users; for the Android development aficionados, Android 2.3 includes many new technologies and APIs that support developing great apps. This version comes with dozens of changes and a few ground breaking Android mobile applications technologies are highlighted below.
User Interface Refinement
The updated user interface makes it easy for users to control and navigate the features of the device. Menus, notification bars, and other user interface items are rendered with vivid colors on a black background. The user interface is designed for better power efficiency and refined for faster learning and easy usage.
Efficient Text Input
Android 2.3 comes with an improved on-screen keyboard enabling faster input, intuitive typing, and quick editing. The keys are redesigned for optimum placement and targeting - it is easy to view and select the keys accurately. The device displays suggestions from the dictionary to correct entered text. Multi touch key c-hording allows the user input symbols and numbers faster by selecting Shift+and?123+ - no need to switch input forms any longer.
Control Over Applications And Power Saving
Android 2.3 introduces the "task killer" which can be used to terminate misbehaving Android applications. This version gives the user a better insight into the apps running in the background, memory usage, and CPU time usage. This lets the user to exercise increased control over the power consumption by the system and Android applications. The application settings provide details on battery usage and relative power consumed by each app. Android 2.3 proactively takes care of apps that keep the device awake for too long and monitors disproportionate consumption of CPU resources. Through these new features, Android 2.3 ensures optimum device performance with efficient batter power utilization.
Native Code Development Features
Android 2.3 comes with Release 5 of Native Development Kit (NDK), giving Android developers a leg up to scale the productivity peak. The Android developers can now receive input and sensor events, create sound, design 3D graphics contexts, access storage, utilize assets among others. The sensor types now supported are gyroscope, linear acceleration, rotation vector and barometer sensors, which enable Android developers to accurately track device motions and orientation changes. New apps provide control over audio handling via native code through management of audio devices, audio input/output controls, etc. Enhanced native code development is a significant empowerment for any Android development company.
New Communications Options
VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is now integrated into Android 2.3 though you will have to get a SIP account from a 3rd party. VoIP lets you make voice calls over the Internet to other users who have SIP accounts. Near-field communication or NFC is a new way of communicating via tags. The NFC Reader that comes with Android 3.2 can be used to read NFC tags and act upon information contained in it. Additionally, all downloads, whether from your browser, email, or other apps, are now managed in a centralized location. This gives the user convenient access to all downloaded content. The common download is managed by a new download manager, which can be used by different applications to store content in a single location. Also, Android 3.2 comes with the camera app, which gives you access to the multiple cameras on your device.

Android Applications Reigns Ultimate

Android is now becoming more popular than its competitors. This is mainly because of two reasons; the platform is open source and the extended support by Google.
What is the effect of the open source platform?
There a number of benefits to the developers when they use Android. Some of the prominent advantages are as follows.
The developer can bring required changes in the operating systems according to the requirement of the application. This facilitates them in perfecting the application.
The manufacturers of mobile devices now prefer the Android as the base of operating system because they want to optimize the utility of the device as a connecting link between the businesses and the buyers.
Since Android is open source, there is no need to pay any money for using it. There is no license fee for using Android, whereas in case of BlackBerry and iPhone the developer needs to pay license fee. In case of BlackBerry and iPhone there are priorities for unlocking but in case of Android these set of priorities do not exist. Once the Android app is ready the Android app developer can sell the application either to a third party vendor or the Android app store. This sort of alternative is not offered by the iPhone. In case of iPhone application development the application can only be sold through the Apple store. When compared to others the Android applications are more secured and stable just because they are base on Linux.
The Android app development facilitates the developer with a stable platform, support of a huge community of developers, multiple options for sale, big return on investment (ROI), good portability, easy development and the Android operating system is the leading player in the Smartphone Market.
With Android applications development one can easily convert the mobile phone into a personal computer with all the functionalities that one expects from the personal computer. Android application development gives high returns on small investment. The ROI is so high that day by day the number of Android application development service providers is increasing dramatically. The community of developers is very interested in developing interesting and unique Android applications.
The Android applications have made the mobile device so smart and capable that the user of Android based mobile phone device can remain in contact with all the people and maintain public relation. Not only this, the user can now receive the reports of the office on the mobile device screen. Android application helps the user to handle the office from a palm sized mobile phone device. With the Android based mobile phones in your palm there is no need to remained glued to the chair in front of your desk top PC. There is no need to carry the Laptop too.
Hire the services of a professional and reputed Android application developer and assure tapping the unique market segment of Android based phones.

iPhone 5 Must Have Features

Techies and geeks can't wait to get their hands on the yet to be launched iPhone 5. This latest addition to the powerful smart phone line from iPhone is rumored to be released in October 2011.
There's a lot of hype about the features that the iPhone 5 will supposedly showcase. Among the much anticipated upgrade is in the appearance of the phone. The company is expected to release the smart phones in two colors: a white and black version. It is expected that iPhone 5 will have a change in the casing material, being in favor of an aluminum housing instead of the usual aluminosilicate glass that the iPhone 4 sports. Changing the backing material will further lighten the new handset. The back part of the housing supposedly tapers at corners for a more comfortable feel. When it comes to the problematic antenna design, the iPhone 5 is expected to address the signal degradation that iPhone 4 users experienced when the phone is gripped in certain ways. The location of the antenna is likely to be changed in an area that will not be covered whenever calls are made.
The LCD backlit display screen size of 3.5 in iPhone 4 is supposedly another feature that the new model will retain. In case iPhone 5 will get a screen size upgrade, users will probably get a compromise ranging from 3.7 to 4.0.
The main processor that will probably power the new iPhone 5 will be the dual-core A5 ARM Cortex-A9 CPU chip. This chip is the same ones used by iPad2 to handle multiple tasks at once with twice the speed and efficiency. This feature could also boost the viewing capability of applications that are heavy on graphics.
If ever the iPhone 5 will use the A5 processor, it is highly probable that the phone will debut with the iOS 5.0 operating system for mobile phones. The OS supports multi-touch capability so that users can directly manipulate applications by zooming or scrolling with just a tap of a fingertip. The iOS 5.0 reportedly has 200 new features including iMessage, Reading List, News Stand, and many more. The use of the iOS 5.0 in iPhone 5 will keep these smart phones ahead of its Blackberry competitor.
Another feature expected to be included in iPhone 5 is the recently announced iCloud computing and storage service. The iCloud will enable users to remotely access applications, documents, photos, music, contacts, and other information on their phones.
As for the camera, techies are awaiting an upgrade in the 5 MP resolution of preceding iPhone handsets. There is a big possibility that iPhone 5 will use an 8 MP built-in camera to deliver stunning photos that are just as intense as the real thing. Many assume that the iPhone 5 will retain the ability of the iPhone 4 to capture excellent pictures even with limited light source.
Finally, speculations have indicated that the iPhone 5 will include Near Field Communications (NFC) support. This aspect enables customers to use their phones to make purchases instead of the usual credit card.
Take a look at these excellent iPhone 5 deals or you might choose to check out these iPhone 4S deals as an alternative.

AT&T Offers International Plan For iPhone

AT&T announced today a new international plan for iPhone users.

The plan cannot be purchased separately and is in addition to the domestic plan needed for iPhone activation. iPhone customers that go over the 50MB limit will pay an additional $0.005 per KB in those countries where the plan is available. In other areas users will pay double the amount.

At&t Cell Phones: Finding Ways To Provide Iphone For All

A new technique in the cell phone industry to get customers who might otherwise avoid expensive smart phones is through selling refurbished cell phones. AT&T Cell Phones recently did this with the iPhone, giving new customers an excellent smart phone at the cost of a basic phone. This is a great way to reach out to new clients and insure no product is ever wasted.

A refurbished iPhone from ATT cell phones, or any phone from any company for that matter, is essentially a new phone. Basically refurbished means a person is buying a used casing but all the technology within the phone is updated and brand new. So there may be a small blemish here or there but the smart phone itself, for all intents and purposes, is a new cell phone. That is why this is such a great way to reach those on a smaller budget. These people, me included, will not mind a ding here or there (though it is entirely possible that one will get a phone with no blemishes at all) as they know those will come with time anyway. So if the hardware inside works, the stuff that truly matters, why should you care about anything else on the outside?

At AT&T Cell Phones, the iPhones have been returned within the 30 day trial period, the software inside is then checked and updated and then the phones are put back on the market. That means that a refurbished iPhone could have been a gift to someone. Say that someone already had an iPhone but the person giving the gift was unaware. Then that phone will be returned to ATT Cell Phones, it will have its hardware checked, and then it will be sold as refurbished. So it is a new iPhone and for a fraction of the regular cost.

These are deals that even those with the money to buy new should consider. Remember, refurbished is not used. These will come with warranties and guarantees, the software is as good as any new phones software, it is simply that once it was taken out of its original packaging it cannot be sold as "new."

So if there is ever software you are considering but your budget is limited check to see if they offer the item as refurbished. The savings is tremendous, the quality is equal to new and the feeling of getting such a great deal is undeniable. This author is still shocked that it has not become a more popular thing to do, but it should. And maybe after this article, it will
.

AT&T Pulls iPhone Wi-Fi - Uh-Oh

AT&T pulled a big blunder this week that may have a swath of new and prospective iPhone customers up in arms. The blunderer? AT&T, not Apple. The blunder? Advertising that the new iPhone comes with free Wi-Fi (which it sadly does not). Now the aim of this article will not be to point fingers at AT&T for its error, however, but to clear up any and all confusion about what is and isn't so regarding WiFi and the second generation iPhone.
First, the details of the mistake...
Apparently, this past Friday, July 18, 2008, AT&T posted an advertisement on it's U.S. website proclaiming that iPhone subscribers were now able to access all 17,000 of AT&T's WiFi hotspots for free. Specifically, the notice said:
"AT&T knows Wi-Fi is hot, and free Wi-Fi even hotter, which is why we are proud to offer iPhone customers totally free access to the nation's largest Wi-Fi hot-spot network with more than 17,000 hot spots. Now users can relax and access music, email, and Web browsing services with their favorite blend in hand from the comfort of their favorite location."
Now, to set the record straight...
Unfortunately, that is simply not true. And although AT&T execs quickly caught on to the error (quickly being 1 hour after its publication) and promptly removed the erroneous notice, it was already too late, as countless site visitors had already taken in the information.
Equally unfortunate is the backlash that came of this (one which hopefully will soon dissipate, though no one can truly tell), that being the infuriated postings on blogs and user forums irate about being so misled. Certainly some want AT&T to make good on its gaffe as compensation for putting erroneous information out there. Of course, there is little to no chance that AT&T will oblige (no matter how terribly sorry they are).
Other, less disgruntled web writers, however, have posited that perhaps this offering, while prematurely announced, is actually something that AT&T has in the works. For why would they even post such an outrageous claim if it wasn't at least a conversation behind the scenes?
Invulnerable?
At least anger at the blunder is being properly directed, though, and doesn't seem to have bled over into Apple's camp, nor taken any punch out of the 3G iPhone's thunder. For sales of the 3G iPhone have been even better than Apple's seemingly lofty predictions, with most vendors sold completely out and a second round of shipments not scheduled until October. As long as demand outweighs supply like this, no amount of errors on AT&T or anyone else's part can make a dent in the iPhone's star status.
As though to highlight this point, CNet's regular posting about its Top 10 Reviews of the Week (and that's of all products, not just smartphones) hails the iPhone as number one.

iPhone 4 AT&T U-Verse Mobile App - Why Only 2.5 Stars?

AT&T recently launched the U-verse app for the iPhone 4. It is an application that allows customers to browse the TV guide, set favorite shows so you see them quickly, set DVR recordings, and watch SELECT recorded shows. iPhone 4 users can utilize the app when connected to a 2G, 3G, or Wi-Fi network. There have been mixed reviews of the product as indicated by a two and a half star rating out of 5 stars in Apple's App store. For most, what the app is able to do in connecting to the DVR and their U-verse package is acceptable; it is what the app does not do that leads to most of the negative comments. The question is, will AT&T take any action to move the app toward the 4-5 Star rating?
First, let's review some positives about the AT&T U-verse mobile application. From almost all accounts the app does exactly what it says it is going to do. Over a 2G or 3G network iPhone4 users can access the TV Guide and set and manage their home DVR, which is very cool. There have been a few that have said a recording they set didn't work but since the recent app update that seems to be a rare occurrence. Furthermore, people have raved about the downloadable content from the AT&T U-verse application. On the iPhone 4 the quality of the videos are impeccable and they do not take too long to download with a Wi-Fi connection. So the app delivers as promised, but why the low rating?
There are a few major complaints about the application that are universal across the board for users. While the app itself is free, to actually access downloadable content an iPhone 4 user must also be signed up for a U300 U-verse package or better. The U300 package is selling for $82 a month without HD channels. If a customer has any package less than the U300 they will not be able to download any shows to their iPhone. Also, the shows that are available for download are the choice of AT&T. It is not live streaming television, or even shows that have been recorded on the users' home DVR. Many are upset that they can't watch the shows they recorded and insist this is the main issue AT&T should address. Finally, recorded shows are only available for download over a Wi-Fi network. Just like FaceTime, iPhone 4 users cannot use what would be a popular app because it is tethered to Wi-Fi. The bandwidth requirements are understandable but are they enough to keep the ratings low?
The AT&T U-verse mobile app seems to be a good, but not great, mobile application. The app does what is expected of it but does not deliver exactly what people are looking for. It is useful for managing your home DVR from the iPhone. However, if someone is looking to watch live streaming television or the shows they have recorded this is not the app to do it. Perhaps some of the army of iPhone 4 testers are fine tuning a full featured app right now?
